Advertising Schemes

We are often asked - "How do I get advertisements on my site, so that I can bring in some advertising revenue?"

Many web-based advertising schemes are ineffective. Here are two that can bring results:

1.    Commission Junction

We suspect that many small businesses will have difficulty in finding a scheme where the advertiser will pay you just to place an advertisement on your site. The available schemes (and Commission Junction is no exception) pay out if someone looking at your site clicks on the ad (and additionally, in most cases, the click-through has to result in a lead or sale). You then get automatically paid an amount of money, which can be a fixed amount for a lead, or a significant percentage of the sale.

This means that it's crucial to have ads on your site that relate to the subject matter of your site - otherwise people will tend to ignore them.

To give an idea of the scale of Commission Junction's operation: on their site there are about 1700 advertisers in the "personal care/health and wellness" section alone. This means that you should be able to find advertising material that is both reputable and relevant to your site.

Our suggestion is that you go to their site and join up as an affiliate. Choose a small number of advertisers, as relevant to your site as possible.

If you are constructing your own site, download the code to put on your site in order to make the ads work.

2.    Google Adsense TM

AdSense automatically delivers ads targeted to your content on a page-by-page basis. You make money when visitors click on ads placed on your site. We wholeheartedly recommend this scheme. The ads on this page are delivered by Adsense.

A final message - if you have ads on site and visitors click on them - then they are leaving your site for someone else's!
